ARTICULATED BOOM MANIPULATOR - LABMan
LABMan is a large articulated manipulator
with a number of powered links rotating in the horizontal plane
to form a snake-like structure up to 10m in length all cantilevered
from a fixed mount, a rail or a vehicle.
LABMan is modular and can be configured
for various lengths and number of joints. A typical configuration
comprises 6 main articulations, a pitch and roll axis at the free
end carrying 500kg at a 10m reach.
The free end of LABMan incorporates
a remotely compatible docking flange facilitating the connection
of various other remote manipulation devices such as Dexter or the
Oxford Technologies generic end-effector which incorporates two
degrees of freedom and a proprietary 6 axis Force-Moment sensor

LABMan can be supplied with built-in
cameras located at fixed points along the boom or on a 1m long arm
with 5 degrees of freedom mounted close to the free end of the boom.
LABMan will operate in radiation environments
up to a total dose exposure of 1MGy and incorporates a range of
features to facilitate its recovery after failure in a hostile enviroment.
