OTL celebrates success as AgriRover project is shortlisted for Engineer magazine Award

Oxford Technologies AgriRover project team is celebrating making the final shortlist in this year’s Engineer magazine’s prestigious Innovation and Collaboration Awards in the Energy, Efficiency and Sustainability category.

The AgriRover project is advancing the UK’s skills and knowledge of agricultural robotic technology by designing an ambitious holistic solution to serve the farming industry in China, using a combination of existing technologies together with research and development expertise.

Although China is a vast country, the amount of arable land is limited and, as most of this land is already farmed, the only way to increase production is through intensification. However, difficulties in undertaking crop testing have led to the over-application/unsuitable-application of chemicals, resulting in a negative environmental impact without obtaining the potential benefits of increased crop production

OTL and the University of Strathclyde are collaborating on the AgriRover Project to tackle these issues by developing an affordable, robust mobile crop sampling system, using a combination of satellite communication systems, remote handling capabilities and haptic technology.
