Training
Our activities at the JET project over the past 20 years has required the training and retraining of technicians and engineers to facilitate the design, operation and support of the JET remote handling facility.
Training of Remote Handling equipment operators and maintenance technicians involves a mix of practical and classroom elements delivered as part-time, 2 hour, sessions over a number of weeks.
In 2006 Oxford Technologies Ltd, in partnership with CEA List in Paris, VTT in Finland and Tampere University of Technology were selected by the European Commission to provide Phd standard training for Master’s level graduates who wish to enter the field of Remote Handling for Fusion. The so-called PREFIT scheme is an integrated programme of research and training leading to award of a PhD in Remote Handling for Fusion. Trainees undertake a major research project with relevance to ITER remote handling together with classroom and on-the-job training in specialist technology and management areas. The scheme has been designed to ensure that the successful candidates become suitably qualified for employment on remote handling work specifically related to ITER but applicable to many other application areas.
